Adaptability: When change is the only constant

The tech industry now finds itself on the brink of discovering its true potential and resulting impact on the world as a whole. It is in times of turbulent uncertainty and market instability – precisely the time we find ourselves in – that businesses need to adapt quickly to the changing business landscapes. As Leon C. Megginson famously paraphrased Charles Darwin’s evolutionary research:

It is not the strongest or the most intelligent who will survive but those who can best manage change.”

With the new dawn of globalization upon us, we need to act quickly and decisively to manifest a future worth creating. The only way to achieve this is through adaptability. And we know a thing or two about being adaptable to circumstances: it’s become one of our core values because in the tech business we know we can rely on things changing in the blink of an eye. Action and adaptability create opportunity

Now more than ever lies a tremendous demand for businesses to be adaptable in the face of change. It’s the time to adapt or die, sink or swim, or survival of the fittest. In this instance, those who wish to swim must embrace complete and transparent adaptability when faced with new challenges which threaten the status quo. Those who anticipate disruptions will take an early advantage and chart a new course to overcome obstacles, rather than try old approaches to new challenges.

So when disruptions occur – and they will – businesses need to learn to see these disruptions as an avenue towards opportunity. Change, while uncomfortable, is frequently positive and helps promote growth. However, by shifting your mindset and being prepared for change, you are of course more likely to be able to adapt in a way that feels active rather than reactive.

We’re reasonable. We understand the crucial importance of identifying early signifiers of change, and the ability to adapt as and when required. The fear and difficulty of change only comes from being unprepared for it. Business leaders must quickly realise that their product or service only exists within certain socio-economic and cultural parameters. When those parameters are disrupted by a powerful external force, they must create new ways to be relevant in the new order once the disruption dust settles.

But we can’t fight this on our own. We need our fellow business leaders in the tech industry and beyond to realise this and make crucial changes to meet the demands of current and future disruptions. We need to constantly remind ourselves that we exist in precarious ecosystems. When these ecosystems falter, it is up to the sum of its parts – us – to adapt to meet the new challenges or else the entire ship sinks. So we urge all our friends and competitors not to be unreasonable, but to play their part to ensure constant progress by understanding the necessity to adapt to change.
